Entertaining, but the setting had so much more potential. The aliens didn't need to be that moronic to have a hilarious story.

Inkheart (2008)
4/5
Books can be more real than you think. Visually a stunning story, but the end is a bit of an anti-climax.

Star Trek (2009)
4.5/5
A simply stunning re-start of the franchise. This is an action movie that can take its place without hesitation next to the other highlight of the series : First Contact. I was a bit disappointed why an 'alternate history' had to be created, maybe because new movies won't be forced to be in canon with the past. Nice to see Mr. Spock again too.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
4.5/5
Breathtaking prequel to the 3 X-men films. Most of the story-driving characters are new, but some old acquaintances are there too. The history Logan has with Colonel Stryker is revealed, and also why he has no memory of his past in the first X-men movie. Quite a rollercoaster ride, fun entertainment

A fine story, beautifully told. Some plot elements (giant insects and moles) are never explained, and the introduction to the city is much too slow. The movie is mostly over before the plot (escaping from the city) finally starts. Because of the short amount of time alotted to the escape, that escape seems very simple, and one can't help but wonder why no-one hasn't figured it out before. The environments are really beautiful, and remind me of the design seen in movies by French directors (Fifth Element, Mirror Mask, ...)

The Transporter (2002)
3.5/5
A funny action movie. quite predictable, but the racing scene at the beginning makes it all worth it. The 'Taxi' roots of the producer show.

Largo Winch (2008)
2.5/5
A huge disappointment. We are fans of the graphic novel series, and too much has changed from those. The story is a mix of elements of the graphic novels, but not necessarily the best parts.

The Score (2001)
4/5
A heist movie in the footsteps of the classic ones (The sting, Ocean's 11, the Italian Job). It has less spectacular scenes maybe, but Edward Norton as mentally retarded boy is excellent.

The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
4/5
Freaky, as you can't help think 'what if this already exists?' A good thing is also that the movie doesn't end with the bad guys all locked up or dead. The doctor for example is just doing fine, and Manchurian Global isn't even prosecuted.

Around the World in 80 Days (2004)
3.5/5
Entertaining vision of the original Jules Verne story. It's certainly not accurate, but we had good laughs.

Blade II (2002)
3.5/5
Not bad, but the original was more to my taste. The special effects were also less exuberant in the original.

[lang_nl]Een leuke sci-fi horror-achtige film, met meer dan doorsnee karakterisering van de personages voor het genre.[/lang_nl][lang_en]A nice sci-fi horrorish movie, with more than average character progression and development for the genre. [/lang_en]

Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
4/5
The trailer gives you a wrong idea of the movie, but it's a nice story of a special friendship, and how children cope with the loss of a loved one. Blade (1998)
4.5/5
A very nicely done Vampire story with a twist. Wesley Snipes does what he does best, and it shows he is having loads of fun.

The Last Legion (2007)
4.5/5
Based on the novel by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, the story gives a good impression of the hopeless situation in Rome just before the fall. It's no Hollywood slaughterfest like Gladiator, and it feels quite modest and small, but that's how the Roman Empire was at the end. If you want a rollercoaster ride, don't watch this movie. Otherwise, this is a movie to start the weekend with.
